Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 14th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (65-55) lost 9-5 (BOX SCORE)

Another tough loss for Fresno. They had one of their betters starters, in Hauschild, on the mound last night but he only lasted 1 inning. In that first inning he allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, and 4 runs. Fresno entered the bottom of the 5th down 6-0 but started to mount a comeback with an RBI single from Moran and a bases loaded walk to Worth. In the 7th inning Kemmer crushed a 3 run HR to right center, an estimated 469′. This was his 15th of the season and brought Fresno within a run. Unfortunately, the bullpen gave up 3 more runs and Fresno fell 9-5.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (71-49) won 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Paulino made his return to the Hooks rotation making his first start for Corpus since June 18th. He was great again though going 6 innings allowing just 1 run with 0 BB/6 K. The Hooks offense jumped out to an early 1-0 on a Gurriel sac fly scoring Laureano. They scored again in the 3rd on a Gurriel RBI single driving in Stubbs who doubled. Ramsay added a solo HR in the 4th to make it 3-1. In the 7th inning the offense put this one out of reach with a sac fly from Boyd and a 3 run HR from Laureano. Smith pitched 3 scoreless innings to close it out.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (67-52) won 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster has really been playing good baseball and that continued last night. The Jethawks got 3 runs in the first inning on a Ferguson sac fly and a 2 run triple from Martin. Ferguson drove in another in the 2nd inning with an RBI single to make it 4-2. Marlow added an RBI double in the 3rd inning to extend the lead. Hernandez made his return to the Jethawks and pitched a lot better allowing 3 runs over 6 innings with 9 strikeouts. In the 6th inning Lancaster put the game out of reach getting a solo HR from Wik and RBI singles from Mizell, Ferguson, and Muniz. Deemes tossed 2 scoreless in relief and Deetz closed it out in the 9th.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (57-61) won 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Dominant pitching in this one. The Perez/Abreu piggy-back was about as good as it gets. Perez went the first five scoreless innings allowing just 4 hits with 9 strikeouts. Abreu followed him tossing four scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Porter got Quad Cities on the board with a solo HR in the 3rd inning. Tucker added an RBI single in the 6th inning to make it 2-0. They got 2 more in the 9th on a Cesar 2 run single and that was more than enough for Perez and Abreu.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (30-26) played a double header

GAME 1 – won 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

GAME 2 – lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (26-25) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)
