Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 13th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (65-53) lost 9-5 (BOX SCORE)
Frias has struggled so far with Fresno and last night was no different. He went 3.2 innings giving up 7 runs. Fresno did jump out to an early lead on a Kemmer 2 run HR in the first. Singleton added another run in the 4th on a solo HR. Kemmer made the game a bit closer with a 2 run triple in the 5th. Unfortunately the offense went silent after that inning and couldn’t mount a comeback.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (70-49) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)
Tough loss late for Corpus. Martes got the start and was very good once again allowing 2 runs over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts. Corpus got 2 runs in the 5th inning on a Tanielu RBI single and Gurriel RBI groundout to tie it. They added 2 more in the 6th on a 2 run single from Nunez to take a 4-2 lead. The Hooks bullpen had a rough go of it allowing 2 runs to Arkansas to tie it and another run in the 10th to take the lead. Corpus was unable respond and fell in extras.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (66-52) won 16-2 (BOX SCORE)
Big time win for Lancaster last night. Dykxhoorn started for Lancaster and gave up 2 solo HR in the first inning but was great after that. He finished going 6.2 innings allowing just 2 runs. Lancaster first got on the board in the 3rd on a Ferguson RBI single. They put up 5 runs in the 4th on a 3 run triple from Wik, Straw RBI single, and Sewald RBI double. Muniz added a 2 run HR in the 7th to extend their lead but they weren’t done. They capped off their big night dropping 8 runs in the 8th inning. In that inning the Jethawks got RBI singles from Duarte and Mizell, RBI walks from Woodward and Marlow, and a grand slam from Wik. Garza tossed 2.1 scoreless innings to close it.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (56-61) played a double header
GAME 1 – lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)
Valdez got the start in this one and pitched well. We will get into his line in a bit. Quad Cities entered the 6th down 3-0 and were able to tie it on an RBI single from Michelena and a 2 run triple from Porter. Valdez had a solid start allowing 4 runs, 3 earned over 6.2 innings. Unfortunately the 4th run came in the bottom of the 7th (last inning) and Peoria was able to walk it off.

GAME 2 – won 8-3 (BOX SCORE)
Quad Cities was able to pull out the win in the 2nd game of the double header. They jumped out to an early lead with 3 runs in the first inning on a Tucker RBI single, Cesar RBI groundout, and Porter RBI single. They added to their lead with a 4 run 4th on a 2 run HR from Johnson and a 2 run HR from Wrenn. Perez was pretty dominant striking out 10 over 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs. Wrenn wasn’t done though as he added an RBI double in the 6th. Schmidt was able to close it out with a scoreless 7th.
