Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 12th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (65-53) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno got off to a nice start in this one scoring 3 times in the bottom of the 2nd inning on an Aplin RBI double, a run scoring on a wild pitch and another on an error. Aplin added a 2 run triple in the 6th inning to extend the lead. They would get 3 more runs in the 7th on a Moon solo HR and a Fisher 2 run HR. Valdez got the start and went 6 innings allowing 1 run with 6 strikeouts. The bullpen gave up a couple of runs but was able to hang on for the win.

  • Cesar Valdez, RHP: 6.0 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K (WIN)
  • Aaron West, RHP: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (70-48) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Crazy game in Corpus. Thornton started for the Hooks and pitched very well allowing just 1 run in 7 innings with 1 BB/6 K. Arkansas’ staff was even better though. Their staff had a combined perfect game with two outs and two strikes in the 9th but Laureano was able to break it up with a walk. The next batter, Boyd, singled to breakup the no hitter. The next batter, Tanielu, came through with an RBI single to tie the game. A couple pitches later, Boyd raced home on a wild pitch to win in a walk-off. Talk about an improbable comeback.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (65-52) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Hernandez got the start for Lancaster last night but it did not go well. He ended up going 5 innings allowing 11 hits and 7 runs. Lancaster tried to rally in the 6th getting a 2 run HR from Muniz. In the 7th they scored 3 more runs on back to back homers from Correa and Mizell and another run on a Muniz RBI double. Unfortunately the bullpen gave up 3 more in the 9th to make it a 10-5 game. Lancaster would get a run in the 9th with Duarte doubling and scoring on a passed ball but that is all they would get.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (55-60) POSTPONED

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (29-25) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (25-24) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)
