Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 23rd

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (52-46) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Peacock, who was great his last two outings, but gave up 10 hits and 4 runs in this one. Fresno scored 3 in the 2nd inning on a 2 run single from Moon and an RBI single from Kemp. They would stay scoreless and enter the 7th down 5-3. Kemmer brought them a bit closer with a solo HR in the 7th inning. Guduan tossed 2 scoreless innings t keep it close but Fresno was unable to pick up any more runs.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (61-38) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus wins this one in 14 innings. Yuhl was on the mound for the Hooks but had a rough go of it giving up 7 hits and 4 runs in 4 innings of work. Corpus first got on the board on a Gregor RBI single in the 2nd inning. They entered the 7th down 4-1 but rallied with 3 runs to tie. In that inning they got a 2 run single from Vasquez and an RBI groundout from Tanielu. They would fall behind again by 2 runs but inch closer on an RBI single from Stubbs. Corpus entered the 9th down a run but Gregor tied the game on a solo HR. The game stayed scoreless until the 14th inning when Frisco went up 8-7. In the bottom of the 14th Tanielu tied the game with a solo shot. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and two outs, Stubbs came through with an RBI single to right.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (54-45) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Bostick got the start last night for the Jethawks and turned in another quality start allowing 3 runs over his 6 innings of work. All three of those runs came in the 2nd inning but Lancaster would respond right away with four runs in the bottom of the inning. In that inning the Jethawks got RBIs from Sewald, Mizell, Boyd, and Nunez. In the 5th inning they got 2 insurance runs, both scoring on an error. Thome and Deemes combined to throw the final 3 innings without allowing a run.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (47-51) won 9-3 (BOX SCORE)

Two big innings won this one for Quad Cities. They got off to a good start scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first. In that inning they got a sac fly from Tucker, McCall RBI single, and a Cesar 2 run HR. Murphy got the start and had one of his best outings of the season going 7 innings allowing 1 run with 2 strikeouts. Quad Cities added 4 more in the 3rd on a McCall 3 run HR and a Porter solo shot. Hermelyn added 1 more in the 6th on an RBI double.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (18-17) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

This win boost Tri-City back over .500. Tri-City jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo HR from Wrenn. In the 3rd inning they put up 4 runs on a based loaded walk to Dawson and then Mejia cleared them with a 3 run double. Kessay got the start and allowed 2 runs but walked 5. Pinales relieved him and ended up going 4.1 innings allowing 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. Tri-City would add some insurance scoring 3 runs in the 9th on a DeGoti RBI single and an Ayarza 2 run double. Hernandez tossed a scoreless 9th to seal it.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (16-14) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)
