Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 17th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (48-44) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Well played game for Fresno. Peacock got the start and had his second consecutive dominant outing. He finished going 7.2 innings allowing just 2 hits and no runs with 9 strikeouts. Fresno got on the board in the 4th with a solo HR from Bregman, his 6th in AAA and 20th HR overall. The game stayed 1-0 until White added some insurance with a solo HR himself. Hoyt picked up the save going the final 1.1 innings with 2 strikeouts.

  • James Hoyt, RHP: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (SAVE)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (58-35) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Yuhl was one of the most dominant pitchers the first half of the season but has struggled recently. He was on the mound for the Hooks last night and gave up 6 runs over 4 innings. The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning with a solo HR from McDonald, his 13th HR of the season. In the 3rd the Hooks put up 2 runs on a 2 run single from Davis to take the lead momentarily. Unfortunately Midland battled right back and jumped out in front 6-3. Corpus was unable to build a rally losing for the 4th consecutive game.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (51-43) lost 10-7 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster got this game started off right scoring a run in the top of the first on a Woodward sac fly. Dykxhoorn was on the mound for the Jethawks and got roughed up giving up 6 runs over his 4 innings of work. In the top of the 3rd inning, Boyd added a solo HR to make it a 3-2 game. Wik added an RBI single in the 6th for the 3rd run of the game for Lancaster. The Jethawks entered the 7th down 7-3 and rallied scoring 4 runs on an RBI triple from Sewald and a 3 run HR from Woodward. Unfortunately the bullpen gave up 3 more runs and the Lancaster offense was unable to respond.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (44-50) lost 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Murphy was on the mound yesterday for the River Bandits but it didn’t go very well. He ended up giving up 5 runs over his 5 innings of work. All 5 runs came in the 5th inning. Quad Cities entered the 7th down 6-0 and was able to get on the board on a Roa RBI double. They would add 3 more in the 7th thanks to a Tucker RBI single, McCall RBI groundout and Porter RBI triple. This got them a bit closer but the bullpen gave up 3 more runs in the 8th and Quad Cities was unable to respond.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (16-14) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE

Tri-City got off to a good start in this one scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a Cesar RBI single and a 3 run HR from Dawson. Pinales got the start and was rolling through the first 4 innings but gave up 5 runs in the 5th. Tri-City responded with 5 runs over their own in the bottom of the 7th. In that inning they got a Birk RBI double, Mejia RBI single, and another HR from Dawson, this time a 2 run shot. Batavia would rally for 3 runs in the 9th to make it 9-8 but Santos was able to get the last out with two guys on.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (13-11) won 5-4 in 20 innings!! (BOX SCORE)
