Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 22nd

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (34-37) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Another close win for Fresno. Valdez started for Fresno and had another great outing. He went 7 innings allowing just 1 run with 5 strikeouts. Fresno scored two runs on the night and both came in the 2nd inning. White lead off the inning with a solo HR, his first HR since going back to AAA. Later in the inning Kemmer would add an RBI single. Fields tossed a scoreless 8th and Hoyt pitched a scoreless 9th striking out two and picking up his 17th save.

  • Cesar Valdez, RHP: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (WIN)
  • Josh Fields, RHP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
  • James Hoyt, RHP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K (SAVE)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (48-24) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough day for the Corpus offense. Corpus scored first with a McDonald RBI single in the 4th inning. Frias got the start and pitched well giving up just 1 run (6th) over 7 innings of work. The game would stay tied at until the 13th thanks to scoreless outings from Sanudo and West. In the bottom of the 13th San Antonio was able to push across a run on Freeman and pick up the win.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (34-45) OFF

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (31-38) OFF 

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (2-4) lost 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Bostick got the start in this one for Tri-City. He ended up going 5 innings allowing 4 earned runs but did have 0 BB/5 K. Minnis mad ehis season debut and tossed two scoreless innings for the ValleyCats. Tri-City was finally able to get on the board with 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th thanks to an RBI single from Dawson and another run scoring an error. Cesar had three hits and Benedetti had two hits but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
