Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 15th

All four full season teams as well as the DSL squads in action. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (29-35) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno wins a close one on one big hit. Peacock got the start and was cruising through the first four innings. He ended up giving up 2 runs in the 5th but that is all he would give up in his 5.2 innings of work. Fresno only scored in one inning but made it count. In the top of the 5th inning Mayfield hit his 2nd AAA homerun, a grand slam to give Fresno the lead. Sacramento would get another run making it 4-3 but the duo of Chapman and Hoyt closed it out with scoreless outings.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (42-22) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Hooks win again, now 20 games over .500. Corpus scored early and often. In the first inning Tanielu drove in Bregman with an RBI single. In the 2nd inning Teoscar hit a 2 run HR to center field. Corpus would add another in the 3rd on an RBI single from McDonald. In the 4th inning Teoscar homered again, another 2 run shot. Davis also got in on the scoring with a solo HR in the 7th. Martes got the start and went 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs. Freemand and West combined the pitch the last 2.2 innings to seal the win.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (34-31) won 13-2 (BOX SCORE)

Back to back nights with double digit runs for Lancaster. Thornton got the start and was great. He finished going 7 innings allowing 2 earned runs with 0 BB/8 K. Lancaster got on the board in the 2nd inning with a 3 run HR from Martin, his 11th HR of the season. They would add three more runs in the 3rd thanks to an RBI single from Mizell and a 2 run single from Nunez. Nunez drove in two more in the 5th with a 2 run double. Lancaster would add more runs in the 8th with a 2 run double from Boyd and an RBI single from Muniz. Thome threw two hitless innings to close out the game.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (29-36) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

QC wins behind a dominant start. Elieser Hernandez got the start for QC going 6 innings allowing zero runs and striking out 7. The River Bandits got on the board in the first with an RBI double from McCall. The game stayed at 1-0 until the 8th. In the 8th Roa hit a 2 run HR, his first HR of the season. Straw also added an RBI single to make it a 4-0 lead. Santos gave up 3 runs in the 8th but that is all Wisconsin would get. Whitt picked up the save with a scoreless 9th.

DSL Astros Orange (8-2) lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

DSL Astros Blue (9-1) won 16-7 (BOX SCORE)

FRE: Cesar Valdez (4.79 ERA)

CC: GAME 1 – Evan Grills (1.53 ERA); GAME 2 – Edison Frias (3.19 ERA)

LAN: TBD

QC: Yoanys Quiala (3.90 ERA)
