Houston Astros Minor League Recap: April 19th

Another split for the Astros minor league system. Quad Cities looks to get back on track with a win while Fresno’s pitching gets stingy. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (6-5) won 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Tommy Shirley was on the mound and he did not disappoint. Shirley went 6.2 scoreless innings, extending his streak to 11.2 on the season. Fresno was able to scratch across three runs scoring in the 4th, 5th, and 8th innings. Colin Moran had a nice day collecting two hits while scoring one run and driving in a run. Most important, Fresno’s offense drew 8 walks to just 2 strikeouts.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (8-4) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

The loss snaps the Hooks’ five game winning streak. Top prospect, Alex Bregman, got the day off. All six runs for Springfield came in the firth inning. Yuhl was rolling right along but ran into some trouble. Joe Musgrove relieved him and gave up his first run of the season, a solo HR. The Hooks’ offense tried to mount a comeback scoring three in the top of the 7th with RBIs from Mayfield, Gregor, and Davis but it wasn’t enough. Musgrove now has gone 12.1 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB, 14 K on the season.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (4-6) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Back to back nights getting hit hard for the pitching staff of Lancaster. Elieser Hernandez got the start giving up 6 ER in just 1.2 innings. He was relieved by Eric Peterson who gave up the other 4 runs in 2.2 innings. Thompson and Ferrell came in and gave scoreless outings though. Ferrell has gone 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K so far. The bats have started to come alive a bit but it wasn’t enough last night. Ramon Laureano 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 BB. Tanielu added 2 RBI and Boyd picked up two more hits.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (3-10) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Nice to see QC get a win and it started with good pitching. Jose Hernandez went 4.2 IP while only giving up 1 ER. Garza went 3 innings in relief giving up zero runs. He now has a 1.80 ERA this season. The offense did just enough with six different batters getting a hit. Aaron Mizell hit his first homerun of the season, an inside the park HR, and Dexture McCall added three hits himself.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Michael Feliz (18.90 ERA)

CC: OFF

LAN: TBD

QC: Albert Abreu (6.75 ERA)
