Houston Astros Prospect Profile: Nick Potter

Nick Potter – RHP

HT/WT: 6’4”/195 | Bat/Throw: R/R | School: Wichita State| DOB: 02/11/04

Overview:

Potter was drafted by the Astros in the 5th round of the 2025 draft after two years at JuCo and one year at Wichita State. Despite being a reliever in college, the Astros have converted him to a starter. The right-hander has a big time fastball that sits 95-96 MPH and can touch 100. He also has a solid curve but the hurdle coming into pro ball was command. He’s looked strong as a starter so far posting a 2.91 ERE through 7 starts. Potter’s arsenal is sure to change with the Astros from where it was in college.

Baseball America had the following to say about Potter: “Potter is a tall, athletic righthander with an up-tempo operation and a ton of arm speed. Potter throws two pitches in a four-seam fastball and slider. His fastball sits 95-97 mph and touches 100 with plus ride and heavy cut. Potter’s slider sits 83-85 mph with baby sweeper shape, getting around seven inches of sweep and around an inch of drop. Potter looks like a relief-only prospect with two pitches and below-average command.”
