Astros Minor League Recap: April 9th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (7-5) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Winkler 2 run home run. Arrighetti got the start for Sugar Land and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 6 innings while striking out 7 batters. The bullpen was phenomenal keeping the game scoreless as it went to the 12th inning. In the bottom of the 12th, Strahm walked it off with an RBI single as they won 3-2.

Note: Sugar Land bullpen has a 2.16 ERA.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (3-3) won 10-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in a big way in the first inning scoring 7 runs on an error, an Austin RBI single, Encarnacion 2 run single, Sacco sac fly, run on a wild pitch and a Spence sac fly. They got another run in the 3rd inning on a Guillemette RBI single. In the 5th, Encarnacion added an RBI single. Hicks got the start and tossed 5 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. McLoughlin relieved Hicks and went 2 innings allowing 1 run. Encarnacion added a solo HR in the 9th inning. The bullpen allowed a few runs but the offense was more than enough as the Hooks won 10-3.

Note: Sullivan has 10 walks in 6 games this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (2-4) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Hertzler made his second start of the season and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 8. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Hernandez 2 run triple. In the 5th, Asheville got another run on a Schiavone solo home run. Pena went the next 3 innings allowing 1 run. The game would go to extras and in the bottom of the 11th, Frias walked a run in as the Grasshoppers walked off with the 4-3 win.

Note: Hertzler has a 1.86 ERA this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (1-5) lost 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Perez got the start for the Woodpeckers and allowed 3 hits, all solo home runs, over 4 innings while striking out 5. The offense got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd on a Wakefield solo home run. The offense got 2 more runs in the 6th scoring a run on an error and sac fly and one in the 7th on a Trujillo RBI single. Serrano relieved Perez and went 4 innings allowing 1 run. The RiverDogs got 2 runs in the 9th to make it 7-4 but the offense was quiet the rest of the way as they fell by that score.

Note: Perez has 13 K in 8 innings this season.
