The Houston Astros have reached a deal with an international prospect, outfielder Jack Valbrune, according to Francys Romero. Valbrune is a 17-year-old outfielder from Cuba who trains at Javier Rodriguez Academy. He was declared a free agent by MLB yesterday. His bonus is expected to be $375,000.
Francys Romero noted that Valbrune has exciting tools and athleticism with great hitting ability. With the loss of picks due to recent free agent signings, continuing to get international talent will be huge for the Astros.
Huezo, Beck Performing Well in Australia
A few Astros prospects are making a strong impression in Australia this season. Outfielder Anthony Huezo has gotten off to a hot start, batting .333 with four doubles, six home runs, 19 RBIs, and 15 walks against 17 strikeouts in 27 games. Right-hander Jagger Beck has also impressed, posting a 3.38 ERA with 32 strikeouts over 32 innings in eight starts. Strong numbers for the pair of teenage prospects.
