With the season is over we will review each position in the minor league system during the 2025 season. This week we will look at the first base position.
Previous Position Reviews:
TOP PERFORMERS
Will Bush
Bush was drafted out of junior college a couple years ago but had a breakout season in 2025. The 21-year-old started the season in High-A and posted a .812 OPS with 12 homers before getting a promotion to Double-A. For the Hooks he added another 3 home runs and 14 walks in 24 games. Overall he posted a 121 wRC+, which was near the top in the Astros system. He ended up on both the catcher list and first base list.
2025 Stats: 97 G, .229 BA/.361 OBP/.416 SLG, 16 2B, 15 HR, 47 RBI, 10 SB, 121 wRC+
Zach Daudet
Daudet was drafted by the Astros in the 10th round of the 2025 draft and performed really well once getting to Fayetteville. The 22-year-old played in 30 games and hit .294 with 20 walks to 25 strikeouts. While he didn’t have a home run, he did drive in 19 runs and stole 10 bases as well. He played 21 of his 30 games at first base.
2025 Stats: 30 G, .294 BA/.427 OBP/.353 SLG, 6 2B, 19 RBI, 10 SB, 139 wRC+
Wes Clarke
The Astros acquired Clarke this season sending cash to the Brewers for him. He played in 63 games in Double-A following the trade and hit 12 home runs with a .846 OPS. This also included more walks (63) than strikeouts (55). While he is an older prospect, he should make some good depth for Sugar Land in 2026.
2025 Stats: 63 G, .228 BA/.399 OBP/.447 SLG, 9 2B, 3B, 12 HR, 32 RBI, SB, 144 wRC+
THE REST OF THE PACK
Collin Price
Price made his way to Triple-A in 2025 and had a solid season for Sugar Land. The 25-year-old hit .235 but connected on 18 doubles and 18 home runs while driving in 60 runs. Due to the hitter’s league, this worked out to only a 95 wRC+. He spent time between catcher and first base in 2025.
2025 Stats: 111 G, .235 BA/.323 OBP/.434 SLG, 18 2B, 3 3B, 18 HR, 60 RBI, 5 SB, 95 wRC+
2026 OUTLOOK/CONCLUSION
The position doesn’t really have any standouts, but it has been that way for a while. Bush is a solid prospect, but will most likely be listed as a catcher on a roster until he is forced to move off the position. The Astros will most likely continue to rotate players into this position when it becomes apparent they are being moved off their primary position.
