The Sugar Land Space Cowboys came off a tremendous 2024 where they were Triple-A National Champions. While they didn’t repeat, they still had a solid season. Let’s take a look.

NOTABLES
Shay Whitcomb, INF
Whitcomb has been a constant producer in the Astros system for the last few years and 2025 was no different. He played in 107 games for Sugar Land and led the team with a .267 batting average, a .869 OPS, 25 home runs and 64 runs batted in. He was able to get a little time in Houston too. Whitcomb has proven enough where at this point, he just needs some extended major league time rather in Houston or somewhere else.
Miguel Ullola, RHP
After pitching in one game in Triple-A last year, Ullola got the chance to pitch the full season in Sugar Land in 2025. In his first full season in Triple-A, Ullola posted a 3.88 ERA with 131 strikeouts over 113.2 innings. He also allowed just 75 hits, good for a .186 batting average against. While the walks were a little high, he is still nearly unhittable. Ullola should factor in as a potential pitcher on the big league roster in 2026.
Brice Matthews, INF
Matthews, the Astros first round pick in 2023, followed up a nice year in 2024 with another solid performance in 2025. In 112 games, Matthews connected on 18 doubles, 7 triples, 17 home runs and 41 stolen bases for Sugar Land. The 41 stolen bases set a new record for Sugar Land. He also led the Astros system in hits with 109. Matthews got some time in Houston but showed enough that next season he should get an extended look in Houston.
Ethan Pecko, RHP
Pecko had some injuries early in the year but after getting healthy, the 2024 minor league pitcher of the year got back to his normal self. He had a 4.40 ERA in Double-A but that included a 1.75 ERA over his final six outings in Double-A. He got a promotion to Triple-A where he really showed out posting a 3.09 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 35 innings. This is a tough pitcher’s league and he performed well at just 22 years old.
