This off-season, I’m starting a new series highlighting one standout statistic from an Astros minor league player in 2025. The stat might be positive or negative, but it will always be noteworthy.
STAT OF THE WEEK:
Joseph Sullivan posted a 18.3% walk rate in 2025.
This walk rate, which worked out to 88 walks in 481 plate appearances over 106 games, led the Astros minor league system for all players with at least 400 PAs. This was the highest walk rate posted by an Astros minor leaguer (minimum 400 PAs) since Wilyer Abreu posted a 19.0% walk rate in 2022.
Despite only hitting .220, largely due to a .299 BABIP, Sullivan managed to still post a .395 on-base percentage, and used those on-base skills to steal 42 bases, which also lead the Astros system. The 18.3% walk rate ranked as the 8th best in all of minor league baseball with at least 400 plate appearances.
Sullivan has a ton of potential and getting on base is a great start. He has a solid swinging strike percent at just 9.4%. An improvement in the strikeout rate in 2026 could see Sullivan go from a top 10 prospect in the system to possible a top 100 prospect overall.
