Astros Minor League Recap: September 7th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (69-66) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Sugar Land offense got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Leon solo HR. Ullola got the start and was pitching well but ran into trouble in the 6th inning and ended up allowing 7 runs over 5.1 innings. Leach and Santa pitched well in relief tossing 1.1 scoreless innings each. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as Sugar Land fell 7-1.

Note: Leon is hitting .333 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (45-85) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 5th inning scoring 5 runs on a Sullivan RBI single, a Ferreras 2 run single, a run on an error and a Spence RBI double. Dombroski got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 7. Urias relieved Dombroski and allowed 4 runs, including one in the 9th, as the Mission tied it. In the 10th, the teams exchanged runs and forced an 11th inning. In the 11th, the Missions walked it off as the Hooks fell 7-6.

Note: Ferreras is hitting .400 in September.


A+: Asheville Tourists (52-76) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first on back to back homers from Encarnacion and Schiavone. Howard got the start and went 3.2 innings allowing 4 runs, 2 earned. After Diaz allowed 2 runs, Rodriguez came on and tossed 4 scoreless. Unfortunately the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Asheville fell 6-2.

Note: Encarnacion has a .718 OPS in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (69-63) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the third inning on an error. Aguilar got the start for the Woodpeckers and pitched well allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, over 6 innings while striking out 4. Perez relieved Aguilar and allowed 1 run over 2 innings of work. The Woodpeckers got one back in the 9th on a Thomas RBI groundout but that was it as they fell 3-2.

Note: Frey is hitting .330 this season.
