Astros Minor League Recap: August 31st

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (64-65) lost 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko started for Sugar Land and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 6. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning on a Short solo HR. The Sugar Land bullpen struggled allowing 6 runs and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Sugar Land fell 8-1.

Note: Pecko has 71 K in 64 innings this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (43-82) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Nezuh started for the Hooks and went 5 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 3. The Hooks tied things up in the 4th inning on a fielder’s choice. Mancini tossed 4 scoreless innings in relief and the game went to extra innings. In the 11th, the Drillers walked it off as the Hooks fell 2-1.

Note: Sullivan has 84 BB in 97 games this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (51-71) lost 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Pinto started for Asheville and went 3.1 innings allowing 1 run. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Vogel solo HR. The Asheville pen allowed 3 runs as the Spartanburgers took the lead. In the 6th, Nunez connected on a solo HR but that was it from the offense as Asheville fell 4-2.

Note: Nunez has a .719 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (67-59) won 12-3 (BOX SCORE)

Smith started for the Woodpeckers and pitched well again allowing 3 runs, 2 earned (all in the 2nd inning), over 5 innings while striking out 5. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring a run on a balk. The offense exploded for 9 runs in the 4th inning on bases loaded walks to Walker, Hernandez and Forrester, a Thomas 3 run double, Daudet RBI single and Powell 2 run single.  In the 6th inning, Call added a 2 run HR. Carrera tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief and then Hebert closed it out with a scoreless 9th inning as the Woodpeckers won 12-3.

Note: Smith has a 2.86 ERA in Single-A.
