Astros Minor League Recap: August 2nd

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (52-52) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

France got the rehab start last night for Sugar Land and allowed 4 runs over 2.0 innings. Ullola pitched in relief and allowed 2 runs over 5.1 innings, though he walked 5. The offense got on the board in the 6th on a Diaz RBI double. They got another run in the 7th on a Davidson RBI single. The offense picked up dup 2 runs in the 8th on a Barber hit by pitch and Corona RBI single. In the 9th, Sacco came through with a 2 run single to tie the game and force extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Davidson sent the fans home happy hitting a sacrifice fly scoring Barber as Sugar Land walked it off.

Note: Ullola has a 3.55 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (34-66) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Nezuh got the start and went 3.1 innings allowing 3 runs. The Hooks offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Ferreras sac fly. Mancini went 4.2 innings in relief allowing just 1 run but the offense was unable to mount a comeback as the Hooks fell 4-1.

Note: Sullivan has a .901 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (43-56) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor got the start for Asheville and allowed 1 run over 4.2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 4th inning on a Whitaker RBI single. They got 2 more runs in the 5th on Janek and Bush RBI singles. They got another run in the 7th on a Janek RBI single. Guedez relieved Taylor and allowed 5 runs over 2.1 innings. The offense got one back in the 9th on a Bush RBI double but the comeback fell short as Asheville fell 6-5.

Note: Janek has 23 SB this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (52-47) 

Game 1 – won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

This was a completion of Friday’s game. Cruz took over as the “starter” on Saturday with the Woodpeckers down were down 2-0. Cruz was phenomenal striking out 7 over 5.1 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit. The offense got on the board in the 5th on a Schiavone RBI double. In the 6th, Huezo and Powell connected on back to back homers as the Woodpeckers took the lead. Rosario went 3 scoreless innings as he closed it out.

Note: Cruz has a 3.75 ERA this season.

Game 2 – lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Smith got the start for the Woodpeckers and went 3.2 innings allowing 1 unearned run. He was relieved by Ryan Smith who allowed 4 runs, all unearned. The offense got on the board in the 5th on a Huezo RBI single but that was it from the offense as the Woodpeckers fell 5-1.

Note: P. Smith has a 3.34 ERA this season.
