Astros Minor League Recap: July 8th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (43-43) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Blubaugh started for Sugar Land and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings of work. Sugar Land tied the game up in the 7th on a Hamilton RBI triple. OKC got a run in the 8th off of Scott and the offense failed to score in the 9th as Sugar Land fell 2-1.

Note: Matthews is hitting .283 this season.

  • Aaron Brown, RHP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
  • Taylor Scott, RHP: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
  • Luis Contreras, RHP: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (29-52) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the Hooks and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned. The offense got on the board in the first inning on a Guillemette solo HR. The pen struggled allowing a few more runs as the Hooks found themselves down 5-1. Springfield would add a few more runs and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 7-1.


A+: Asheville Tourists (36-44) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor started for Asheville and went 4 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 3. The offense got on the board with 3 runs in the 5th on a Sullivan RBI triple and 2 runs scoring on errors. Santos relieved Taylor and allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th. The offense would rally getting a run in the 6th on an error and then 2 runs in the 7th on a Spence RBI double and Bush RBI single. In the 8th, Leach gave up a 3 run HR as the Renegades took a 7-6 lead. The offense was unable to respond as Asheville fell 7-6.

Note: Sullivan has a .909 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (43-38) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

McPherson got the start for the Woodpeckers and pitched well allowing just 1 run over 5 innings. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Fisher 2 run HR. The offense rallied for 4 more runs in the 5th inning on a Hernandez sac fly and Fisher 3 run HR. Howard went the final 4 innings allowing 1 run as the Woodpeckers won 6-2.

Note: Valencia has 39 SB this season.
