Astros Minor League Recap: July 2nd

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (41-42) won 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in a big way scoring 4 runs in the 4th on a Diaz RBI double, Corona 2 run double and a run scoring on an error. Ivey started for Sugar Land and pitched well allowing 1 run over 6 innings of work. The offense picked up 3 more runs in the 6th on a Hamilton RBI single and Bastidas 2 run HR. Hamilton also added an RBI double in the 8th. The pen was solid closing it out with 3 scoreless as Sugar Land won 8-1.

Note: Gaither has a 3.05 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (26-50) won 9-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Cole 3 run HR. They got another run in the 4th on a Garcia RBI double and then 2 more runs in the 5th on Baez and Guillemette RBI singles. In the 6th, Cole connected on another 3 run HR. Rodriguez got the start for the Hooks and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5.1 innings. The pen allowed a couple of runs late but held on as the Hooks won 9-3.

Note: Cole has a .835 OPS this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (34-42)

Game 1 – lost 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started in game one for Asheville and while he allowed just 1 hit over 5 innings, he also allowed 3 runs. The Asheville offense struggled in game one as they were shutout in the 3-0 loss.

Game 2 – lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Nunez RBI groundout. Taylor got the start but struggled retiring just 2 batters as he allowed 3 runs. In the 5th, Spence connected on a solo HR to get a run back. Langford allowed 2 runs in relief as the Drive extended their lead. Asheville picked up a run in the 6th on a balk. The pen allowed another run and the offense went down in order in the 7th as Asheville dropped game two.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (41-36) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and went 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs. The offense got on the board in the 6th inning on a Villarroel RBI double. After falling behind 3-1, the Woodpeckers rallied for 2 runs in the 9th on a Johnson RBI single and a run on an error to tie it up. The game went to extra innings and in the 10th, the Mudcats walked it off as the Woodpeckers fell 4-3.

Note: Valencia has 35 stolen bases this season.
