Astros Minor League Recap: July 22nd

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (50-45) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Ivey got the start and went 4 innings allowing 4 runs. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning scoring 2 runs on a passed ball and Bastidas RBI single. Knorr relieved Ivey and allowed a run as Sugar Land found themselves down 5-2. The offense got a run back in the 6th on Salazar sac fly and another run in the 7th on a Barber RBI single. Unfortunately the comeback fell short as Sugar Land lost 5-4.

Note: Castro has a .857 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (32-58) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning scoring 3 runs on a walk to Guillemette, a wild pitch and a Willits RBI groundout. In the 2nd inning, Clarke added a solo HR. Dombroski got the start and tossed 4 scoreless before allowing 3 runs in the 5th inning. He ended up striking out 6 over 5 innings. Amarillo took the lead in the 7th scoring 2 runs off Rodning. In the bottom of the 8th, the Hooks rallied scoring on a Clarke RBI single and Martinez RBI double to take the lead. Sanchez closed it out with a scoreless 9th as the Hooks won 6-5.

Note: Cole has a .844 OPS this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (39-50) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor started for Asheville and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs. The offense got on the board in the 4th scoring 3 runs on a Gomez RBI single and Whitaker 2 run single. Swiney relieved Taylor but allowed 3 runs in the 5th. The offense got a run back in the 7th on an Encarnacion solo HR. Guedez tossed 4 scoreless innings in relief but the offense was unable to comeback as Ashville fell 5-4.

Note: Gomez has 18 SB this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (47-43) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first on a Luciano RBI groundout. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Trujillo 2 run HR. In the 3rd, the offense added 2 more runs on a Fisher 2 run single. Ogando got the start and allowed 2 runs over 4.1 innings of work. Luciano added another RBI groundout in the 6th inning. Villarroel added a solo HR in the 9th to extend the lead. The bullpen ran into trouble allowing 3 runs in the 9th but they held on for the 6-5 win.

Note: Palmer has a 2.86 ERA this season.
