Astros Minor League Recap: July 18th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (48-44) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Castro bases loaded walk. They got another run in the 5th on a Castro sac fly. Alexander started for the Space Cowboys and was great tossing 6.2 scoreless innings with 9 strikeouts. The pen was solid closing out the shutout as Sugar Land won 2-0.

Note: Alexander has a 1.55 ERA in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (30-57) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning on Williams run scoring single. Javier made a rehab start for the Hooks and went 3 innings allowing 1 run with 3 strikeouts. The Hooks got another run in the 4th on a wild pitch. Santa allowed a run in the 4th as Frisco tied it up. After falling behind 3-2, the Hooks tied the game in the 8th on a Guillemette RBI groundout. Pecko went 5 innings allowing 1 run as the game went to extra innings. In the 10th, Baez connected on a 3 run double and Ferreras drove him in with an RBI double as the Hooks put up 4 runs. Halligan tossed a scoreless 10th as the Hooks won 7-3.

Note: Pecko has a 2.29 ERA over his last four outings.


A+: Asheville Tourists (39-48) won 14-2 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got the scoring started in the first on a Janek 2 run HR. In the second inning Whitaker added 2 more with a 2 run HR of his own. David got the start and pitched well tossing 4 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Vogel added an RBI groundout in the 5th to extend the lead. In the 6th, Jaworsky drove in a run on an RBI single. Bush connected on a solo HR in the 7th inning. The offense exploded for  7 runs in the 8th on a Janek 2 run HR, Spence RBI double, Gomez RBI single, Whitaker 2 run double and Jaworsky RBI groundout. The pen allowed a couple of runs but closed out the 14-2 win.

Note: Janek has a .822 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (46-41) won 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning on a Hernandez RBI double. They got another run in the 4th scoring a run on an error. They picked up another run in the 6th when Valencia singled, stole second and came around to score on another error. Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5.2 innings while striking out 5. The Woodpeckers added on with a run in the 7th on catcher’s interference and a run in the 8th on a wild pitch. Villarroel added another insurance run in the 9th on an RBI single. Brown allowed a few runs in the 9th but held on for the 6-4 win.

Note: Rodriguez has a 2.30 ERA this season.
