Astros Minor League Recap: July 11th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (45-44) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Ullola got the start for Sugar Land and allowed 3 runs over 4.1 innings. The offense got on the board in the 3rd on a McCormick solo HR. The game stayed 3-1 until the 8th inning when Singleton tied the game with a 2 run HR. The game would go to extras and in the 10th, Sugar Land put up 5 runs on a Barber RBI single, Singleton 3 run double and Bastidas RBI double. The pen allowed 2 runs in the 10th but held on for the 8-5 win.

Note: Hernandez has a 1.75 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (29-55) lost 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Mayer got the start but struggled allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, over 4.1 innings of work. The Hooks got on the board in the bottom of the 5th on a Clarke RBI single. The pen allowed a few more runs and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 8-1.

Note: Mayer has 88 K in 68 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (37-47) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on an Encarnacion sac fly. They got 2 more runs in the 5th on a Janek RBI triple and he later scored on a wild pitching. Bello got the start for Asheville and pitched well allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, over 5 innings while striking out 5. True allowed a run as the Renegades tied it in the 6th and in the 9th, the Renegades walked it off as Asheville fell 4-3.

Note: Bello has a 3.88 ERA this season.

  • Derek True, RHP: 3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (44-40) won 8-6 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got the scoring started in the 2nd inning scoring 4 runs on a Lara grand slam. They got another run in the 4th on a Lara RBI single. Smith got the start and went 4 innings allowing 5 runs, 4 earned. The Woodpeckers took the lead in the 5th scoring 3 runs on a Villarroel RBI groundout, wild pitch and a run scoring on a balk. Cruz went the final 4 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 7 as the Woodpeckers won 8-6.

Note: Cruz has 69 K in 70.1 innings this season.
