According to Chandler Rome of the Athletic, the Astros have acquired infielder Ramon Urias in a deal last night. They sent out prospect Twine Palmer to Baltimore to complete the deal.
Urias is an infielder who has been with the Orioles since 2020. The 31-year-old has a career 105 OPS+ and was a Gold Glove winner at third base in 2022. With Paredes being out an extended period of time, Urias is a nice fit to slide in at third and fill the position with strong defense.
Offensively has been a bit of a struggle for him this season posting just a 93 OPS+ overall, but he’s been streaky. In April he had a .735 OPS but it fell to .597 in May. He picked it up again in June with a .735 OPS but it fell again in July, though he is hitting .300 in nine games since the All-Star break.
Also another factor here is that Urias is under team control for 2026 as well, so this deal wasn’t purely a rental.
To complete the deal, the Astros sent out right-hander Twine Palmer. Palmer was the Astros 19th round pick last year out of Connors State College in Oklahoma. In limited time this season in Fayetteville he has pitched well posting a 2.13 ERA in 42.1 innings. He is only 20-years-old and has a lot of potential, but would still be years away from contributing.
What are your thoughts on the deal?
