This will be your weekly hot list of prospects who are performing well at the plate and on the mound. Here is last week’s hotlist. Below is the new hotlist for Week Ten.
Who’s Hot At The Plate?
Brice Matthews – After a slow start to the season, Matthews has been really hot feasting in the PCL. This week in six games, Matthews hit .429 with a double, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 9 runs batted in. He also stole 2 bases. He has a .879 OPS with 19 stolen bases this season.
Luis Castro – Castro was a nice depth signing but he has been phenomenal since joining Sugar Land. In six games this week, Castro hit .538 with 5 doubles, 2 home runs and 11 runs batted in. He’s hitting .392 in June and .344 in 32 Triple-A games this season for Sugar Land.
Jesus Bastidas – Bastidas also put together a nice week for Sugar Land. He played in six games this week and hit .429 with 3 doubles, 2 home runs and 10 runs batted in. After a rough April, he’s up to .844 OPS for the season and is hitting .388 in 12 games during the month of June.
Kevin Alvarez – Alvarez was a big ticket signing for the Astros signing for $2 million. The 17-year-old is off to a hot start as he hit .333 with 3 doubles, a home run and 7 runs batted in over 5 games this week. Alvarez will probably spend this season in the DSL but will definitely be one to watch.
Who’s Hot On The Mound?
Andrew Taylor – Taylor faced some injuries last year and then dealt with some early this year, but now that he is healthy, he is showing why he was a top pick. In his one outing this week, he tossed 5 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. Overall he has a 1.96 ERA in 18.1 innings for Asheville. Read more here.
Trey Dombroski – Dombroski had one of his best outings of the season this week. The left-hander tossed 6 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts, lowering his ERA down to 3.12. He also has 50 strikeouts in 49 innings in Double-A this year. He talked about his improvements this season here.
Joan Ogando – Ogando has been up and down this season, but this week he showed what he was capable of. In his one start, he tossed 6 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. Overall, he has a 3.52 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 47 innings, with the downside being he has walked 37.
Ramsey David – David came on to the radar this spring when he was running his fastball up to 99 MPH. This week David made one appearance and tossed 5 scoreless innings striking out 6. Overall this year, David has a 3.23 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 47.1 innings in Single-A.
