Astros Minor League Recap: May 31st

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (32-22) won 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Blubaugh started for Sugar Land but struggled allowing 5 runs over 3.2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 3rd scoring a run on an error. In the 4th, Guillorme connected on a 3 run HR. The Isotopes scored 5 runs off Murray as they extended their lead. The Sugar Land offense rallied a bit in the 9th with a Matthews 3 run double and Short bases loaded hit by pitch but that would be it as they fell 10-8.

Note: Matthews is hitting .581 over his last eight games.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (17-32) lost 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

Urias got the start and was solid going 5 innings and allowing just 1 run. The pen struggled allowing 4 runs as the RockHounds extended their lead. The offense had a rough day at the plate collecting just 6 hits, all singles, as they were shutout in the 5-0 loss.

Note: Urias has a 3.25 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (22-28) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Mayer got the start for Asheville and pitched really well tossing 6 innings allowing 1 unearned run with 4 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Sullivan solo HR. They got another run in the 4th when they scored a run on a balk. Perez tossed 2 scoreless innings and Chirinos closed it out with a scoreless 9th as Asheville won 2-1.

Note: Sullivan has a .943 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (26-24) 

Game 1 – lost 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for Fayetteville and struggled allowing 5 runs in the first inning while retiring just one batter. Smith and Almonte had scoreless outings in relief to keep the Fireflies to 5 runs. The offense rallied for 2 runs in the 7th a Valencia RBI single and Fisher RBI single but that was it as the Woodpeckers lost game one 5-2.

Note: Almonte has a 2.78 ERA this season.

Game 2 – won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning on a Hernandez 2 run HR. They got 2 more in the 2nd inning on a Fisher solo HR and Hernandez RBI single. Cruz started for the Woodpeckers and went 4 innings allowing 3 runs. The Fireflies picked up a run in the 6th to tie it. In the 8th, the Woodpeckers took the lead on a Hernandez RBI groundout. Ogando went the last 4 innings allowing 1 run as he closed out the 5-4 win.

Note: Ogando has a 3.75 ERA this season.
