Astros Minor League Recap: June 8th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (34-28) lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Ivey started for Sugar Land and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs, all coming on two 2 run HRs. The bullpen was solid tossing 4 scoreless innings but the offense struggled last night collecting just 6 singles as they were shutout in the 4-0 loss.

Note: Short has a .784 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (20-36) lost 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Santos got the start for the Hooks and allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 4.2 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 4th on an Encarnacion sac fly. Chirinos tossed 2.1 scoreless in his Double-A debut but Sanchez allowed another 3 runs in relief. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 6-1.

Note: Chirinos has 40 K in 25 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (25-32) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Brito started for Asheville and went 2.1 innings allowing 1 run with 6 strikeouts. He was relieved by Guedez who allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, over 4.2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 6th on a Gomez 2 run single and Jaworsky RBI single. After the Dash took a 5-3 lead, the offense responded with solo HRs from Jaworsky and Bush to tie it in the 9th. The game went to extra innings and the Dash put up 5 runs in the 10th. The Asheville offense got one back on a Guillemette sac fly but that would be it as they fell 10-6.

Note: Bush has a .884 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (32-25) won 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Smith started for the Woodpeckers and tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, despite walking 4. The offense got on the board in the 4th on an error. Rodriguez pitched in relief and went 4 innings allowing 1 run. In the 9th, the Woodpeckers took the lead scoring 2 runs on a Trimble 2 run HR to take the lead. Almonte closed it out with a scoreless 9th as the Woodpeckers won 3-1.

Note: Hernandez has 21 SB this season.
