Astros Minor League Recap: June 5th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (33-26) lost 8-3 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning getting a run on a wild pitch. They got another run in the 5th on a Short sac fly. Alexander got the start and was solid allowing 2 runs over 6 innings. In the bottom of the 6th, the Space Cowboys took the lead on a Castro solo HR. The bullpen struggled allowing 6 runs and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Sugar Land fell 8-3.

Note: Castro is hitting .291 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (19-34) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got the scoring started picking up 4 runs in the first inning on RBI doubles from Austin, Diaz, and Garcia, who later scored on an error. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Lavastida RBI single. Dombroski got the start and went 5 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 6. Knorr allowed a run in relief but Sanchez closed it down tossing 2.1 scoreless innings as the Hooks won 5-4.

Note: Dombroski has a 3.56 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (25-29) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got the scoring started in the 3rd on a Nunez bases loaded walk. Gillis got the start and pitched well again tossing 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. The offense added another run in the 6th inning on a Vogel RBI double. Rodriguez tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief and Chirinos tossed a scoreless 9th as he closed out the 2-0 win.

Note: Gillis has a 2.45 ERA this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (30-24) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 4th inning on a Trimble sac fly. In the 5th, the Woodpeckers got back to back homers from Ochoa and Fisher to extend the lead. Cruz got the start and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 6. The GreenJackets got a run in the 6th inning to tie it. In the 9th, the Woodpeckers took the lead on a Hernandez hit by pitch and Villarroel, Brutcher and Hernandez bases loaded walks. Almonte closed it out tossing 2 scoreless innings as the Woodpeckers won 7-3.

Note: Brutcher is hitting .347 this season.
