Astros Minor League Recap: June 11th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (36-28) won 12-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land jumped out to a big lead scoring 6 runs in the second inning on a Narvaez RBI single, Corona RBI single, Caldera RBI double, Short sac fly, Hummel RBI single and Matthews RBI triple. The offense added 4 runs in the 5th on a Castro 2 run double and Bastidas 2 run HR. Alexander got the start and allowed 1 run over 4.2 innings. The offense added 2 more runs in the 6th on a Hummel solo HR and Matthews solo HR. The pen was solid allowing 1 run over the final 4.1 innings as Sugar Land won 12-2.

Note: Matthews has a .875 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (21-37) won 11-0 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Diaz 2 run HR. The offense exploded for 7 runs in the 3rd inning on a Cole 2 run HR, Garcia RBI double, Ferreras RBI double, Encarnacion RBI single and Willits 2 run HR. Lavastida added a 2 run HR in the 4th inning. Dombroski started for the Hooks and pitched well tossing 6 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Knorr and Sanchez combined for 3 scoreless innings as they closed out the 11-0 win.

Note: Dombroski has a 3.12 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (25-34) lost 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Pinto started for Asheville and allowed 2 runs over 2.1 innings. He was relieved by Langford who tossed 1.2 scoreless innings. In the 5th, Asheville tied it up scoring 2 runs on a Vogel solo HR and Guillemette RBI double. The Cyclones got 2 runs in the 8th to take the lead and the Asheville offense went down in order in the 9th as they fell 4-2.

Note: Gillis has a 2.66 ERA this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (33-26) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board first getting a Villarroel RBI groundout in the first inning. Cruz got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings of work. In the 4th, the Woodpeckers added 2 more runs on a Valencia RBI single and Trujillo bases loaded hit by pitch. Varela allowed 3 runs in relief as the Nationals took the lead late and the offense was unable to respond as the Woodpeckers fell 4-3.

Note: Valencia has 28 SB this season.
