Astros Minor League Recap: May 16th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (25-18) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for Sugar Land and turned in his best outing of the season as he struck out 7 over 5 innings allowing just 1 run. The Sugar Land offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Bastidas solo HR. They added a run in the 3rd on a Melton RBI groundout and then 2 more runs in the 4th on a Hudson 2 run double. Sugar Land added another run in the 5th on an error. The pen allowed a few runs, but were solid to close it out as Sugar Land won 5-4.

Note: Melton has a .987 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (11-26) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for the Hooks and pitched well striking out 5 over 4.2 scoreless innings. Cole put the Hooks on the board in the 3rd inning on a solo HR. In the 7th, the offense picked up 3 runs on a Wrobleski 2 run HR and Deming solo HR. Mancini relieved Santos and took a lead into the 9th but allowed a homer with 2 outs as the RoughRiders tied it at 4. In the 11th, the Hooks took the lead on a Sherwin RBI single. In the bottom of the 11th, the RoughRiders walked it off scoring 2 runs as the Hooks fell 6-5.

Note: Santos has a 3.52 ERA in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (16-20) POSTPONED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (18-19) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Tredwell started for the Woodpeckers and pitched really well striking out 6 over 5 scoreless innings. The offense got on the board in the 5th on an error. In the 6th inning, the offense picked up 4 runs on a Brutcher RBI single, Powell RBI double and 2 runs scoring on a wild pitch. Ogando closed it out allowing 1 run over the final 4 innings.

Note: Tredwell has a 3.46 ERA this season.
