Astros Minor League Recap: April 30th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (14-15) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Ivey got the start for Sugar Land and went 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Weiman pitched in relief of Ivey but struggled allowing 3 runs over 1.2 innings. The offense’s lone run came in the 8th on a Sacco sac fly. Tamarez tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief but the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Sugar Land fell 5-1.

Note: Matthews has a .387 OBP this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (7-16) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Garcia RBI single. In the 3rd, Ferreras added an RBI double. Dombroski got the start and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work. In the 5th the offense added 3 more runs on a Cole RBI double and Encarnacion 2 run single. The offense played add on late in the game getting a Jordan RBI single in the 7th, a Cerny RBI single in the 8th and a Castro RBI single in the 9th. The pen was solid tossing 4 scoreless innings as they closed out the 8-2 win.

Note: Santa has a 1.15 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (9-13) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Pena started for Asheville and was great allowing 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 7. The offense got on the board in the second inning scoring a run on a wild pitch. In the 6th they picked up 3 runs on a balk, a Gonzalez RBI single and a Gomez RBI double. They got 2 more in the 7th inning on a Sullivan RBI double and Jaworsky sac fly. Rodriguez allowed 4 runs in relief but Leach and Chirinos closed out the 6-5 win.

Note: Leach has a 1.69 ERA this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (12-11) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and went 4 innings allowing just 1 run. The offense got on the board in the 3rd inning scoring 2 runs on a Powell 2 run HR. The offense added 4 more runs in the 5th on an error, a steal of home, Holy RBI double and Valencia RBI single. They added 2 more in the 6th on a fielder’s choice and a Trimble RBI single. Cruz allowed 4 runs in relief but Smith closed it out tossing 1.1 scoreless as the Woodpeckers won 8-5.

Note: Spence has a .478 OBP with 11 SB this season.
