Astros Minor League Recap: April 27th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (13-14) won 8-3 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Whitcomb solo HR. Brown started for the Space Cowboys and allowed 3 runs over 4 innings. In the 4th, Salazar connected on an RBI double. In the 5th, Matthews gave Sugar Land the lead with a 2 run HR. The offense added 2 more runs in the 6th on a Sacco RBI single and a run scoring on an error. They got 2 more in the 7th on a Salazar RBI single and a wild pitch. Walter was great in relief tossing 5 scoreless innings as he closed out the 8-3 win.

Note: Whitcomb has a .896 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (6-15) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Nezuh started for the Hooks and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 6. The offense got on the board in the 6th inning on a Barber RBI single. The pen allowed a couple of runs as Frisco extended their lead and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 4-1.

Note: Santa has a 1.32 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (8-12) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Nunez RBI single. They got another run in the 3rd on a Nunez solo HR. Santos started for Asheville and went 3 scoreless but then allowed 5 runs in the 4th inning. After Perez tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, Langford came on in relief and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned. Asheville got one back in the bottom of the inning on a Sullivan bases loaded hit by pitch. They got another run in the 8th on a wild pitch but that would be it as Asheville fell 8-4.

Note: Sullivan has a .910 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (10-11) won 10-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got the scoring started early scoring 2 runs in the 2nd inning on RBI singles from Valencia and Spence. In the 3rd, the offense picked up 7 runs on a Villarroel solo HR, bases loaded hit by pitch on Spence, Powell, Villarroel, and Hernandez and bases loaded walks to Holy and Trujillo. Gonzalez got the start and went 3 innings allowing 2 runs. The pen was solid with Tredwell tossing 3.2 scoreless innings. The offense picked up another run in the 9th on a Powell RBI single. Almonte closed out the 10-2 win.

Note: Villarroel is hitting .315 this season.
