Astros Minor League Recap: April 17th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (8-10) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first on a leadoff homer from Salazar. They picked up another run in the 3rd on an error. Blubaugh got the start and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 7. In the 5th, Guillorme added an RBI double. The offense would rally for 4 runs in the 7th on a Whitcomb RBI groundout, Melton 2 run double and Matthews RBI single. The pen allowed a few runs, but Castro was able to toss a scoreless 9th to seal the 7-6 win.

Note: Blubaugh has a 2.00 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (3-9) lost 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

Hicks got the start for the Hooks but struggled as he allowed 8 runs over 4 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 7th on a Johnson RBI double. In the 9th, they got another run on a Barber RBI single. The bullpen pitched well but the early deficit was too much to overcome as the Hooks fell 8-2.

Note: Barber is hitting .320 this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (6-5) won 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor made his season debut for Asheville tossing 3 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 3rd on a Gonzalez RBI groundout. They got 3 more runs in the 4th on a Fisher sac fly, Whitaker RBI groundout and Janek RBI single. They got another run in the 5th on a Guillemette groundout. Urias tossed 4.1 scoreless in relief and Chirinos closed it out with a scoreless 9th as Asheville won 5-0.

Note: Janek is hitting .321 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (5-6) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Palmer started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, over 3.2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Luciano 2 run double. They got another run in the 3rd on a Carrillo RBI single. Ogando allowed 1 run over 3.1 innings in relief and in the 9th, the Nationals got a run on an error to take a 4-3 lead. The Woodpeckers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but were unable to bring them home as they fell 4-3.

Note: Powell is hitting .356 this season.
