The Houston Astros are reported to be signing pitcher Alex Santiago Gonzalez, according to a report from Francys Romero. Santiago is an 18-year-old right-handed pitcher from Cuba who is listed at 6’4″ and 200 lbs.
Romero reported that he has a consistent 95 MPH fastball and is the son of Norberto Gonzalez, who was a member of Team Cuba. The deal is pending a physical and should be finalized in the coming days.
Alex Santos excelling in the Arizona Fall League
The Arizona Fall League has been in the swing of things for a few weeks now and Alex Santos, the Astros 2nd round pick in 2020, has been one of the better pitchers. Going into his start last night, he had a 1.69 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. He had another strong performance last night allowing 1 run over 3.1 innings while striking out 4. This is a huge development for the system to get Santos pitching like this again.
