Who’s Hot At The Plate?
Jacob Melton – Melton got off to a slow start and dealt with a few nagging injuries, but he has been swinging it well recently. This week, the 23-year-old hit .529 with 3 doubles, a home run and 2 stolen bases. He’s hitting .425 over his last 12 games and is up to 14 home runs, 27 stolen bases this season.
Austin Deming – Deming, the 10th round pick from 2023, has been a consistent performer all season long. In five games this week, the 24-year-old hit .500 with 2 home runs, 6 runs batted in. He has had a big season connecting on 22 doubles, 18 home runs in 102 games this year.
Quincy Hamilton – Hamilton has quietly had one of the better seasons in the Astros system this year. In 4 games this week, he had a double, a triple, a home run and 6 runs batted in while hitting .400. In Triple-A this season, he has a .834 OPS with 16 doubles, 5 triples and 15 home runs.
Brice Matthews – Matthews has shown off his potential this year proving why he was a first round pick. In 6 games this week for the Hooks, Matthews hit .333 with a double, a home run, 4 runs batted in and 4 stolen bases. Overall he has 15 home runs and 28 stolen bases in just 64 games this year.
Tommy Sacco – Sacco got off to a good start but struggled a bit in the middle of the year. He has turned it on recently though and this week in Triple-A he hit .500 in 5 games. He’s hitting .344 over his last 24 games between Double-A and Triple-A.
Who’s Hot On The Mound?
A.J. Blubaugh – Blubaugh, one of the Astros top pitching prospects, had a strong week in two starts for Sugar Land. In his first outing he allowed 1 run over 5 innings with 7 strikeouts. In his second he didn’t allow an earned run striking out 9 over 5.1 innings. He has a 3.69 ERA this season.
Miguel Ullola – Ullola has shown off his potential this season, having his best season as a professional. In two outings this week, the right-hander totaled 8.2 innings without allowing an earned run, while striking out 10. He leads the Astros system with 151 strikeouts in 119 innings, allowing just 68 hits.
Nic Swanson – Swanson made one start this week for Asheville and was really good allowing just 1 run over 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. He is now up to 108 K in 102 innings this season including a 2.95 ERA during the month of August.
Walker Brockhouse – Brockhouse got his first start of the year in full season baseball this week and made the most of it. The right-hander tossed 5 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. Overall this season, he has racked up 42 strikeouts in 41 innings between High-A and Double-A.
Tyler Guilfoil – Guilfoil has been up and down this season, but was dominant this week. The former relief pitcher in college went 4 innings allowing 2 hits, no runs, and struck out 6 batters. He has pitched a career high 108.1 innings this season with 95 strikeouts in Double-A.
