Astros Minor League Recap: September 8th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (87-50) won 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

The offense got on the board in the first inning on a Dezenzo 2 run HR. They score 2 more runs in the 3rd on bases loaded walks to Leon and Sacco. Gusto got the start for Sugar Land and was solid allowing 1 run over 5 innings. Sugar Land added another run in the 8th on a Hummel RBI double. In the 9th, Cabbage added some insurance with a 2 run HR. The bullpen was solid as they closed out the 7-2 win.

Note: Dezenzo has a 1.270 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (50-80) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on an Encarnacion RBI single and Deming sac fly. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Cerny solo HR. Hicks got the start and was solid striking out 6 over 4 scoreless innings. The offense added another run in the 7th on a Matthews RBI single. Encarnacion added a solo HR in the 8th inning. Robaina allowed 5 runs in relief as the Hooks fell 6-5.

Note: Matthews has a .873 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (51-79) lost 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Langford got the start and allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over 3.2 innings with 5 strikeouts. Carrillo put Asheville on the board in the 4th with a solo HR. Nezuh pitched in relief allowing 3 runs over 4 innings with 5 strikeouts. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as Asheville fell 8-1.

Note: Nezuh has 151 K in 120.1 innings this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (55-75) lost 8-0 (BOX SCORE)

Marte got the start and allowed 4 runs over 3.1 innings. Palmer allowed a couple runs in relief and Hertzler allowed 1 run over 3 innings with 4 strikeouts. The offense struggled though collecting just 2 hits as they were shutout 8-0.

Note: Herztler has a 1.80 ERA this season.
