Astros Minor League Recap: August 4th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (69-38) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 6th inning on a Whitcomb 2 run HR. In the 7th, Whitcomb added 2 more runs with a 2 run single. Gusto got the start for Sugar Land and continued his excellent run tossing 7.1 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. The pen allowed a run but was able to hold on for the 4-1 win.

Note: Gusto has a 1.13 ERA over his last ten starts.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (36-65) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez got the start and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. The Hooks got on the board in the 3rd on a Williams solo HR. In the 5th, the offense got 2 runs on a Matthews bases loaded walk and Price sac fly. Brown closed it out tossing 4 scoreless innings to seal the 3-2 win.

Note: Williams has 8 HR, 24 SB this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (43-56) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Garcia RBI single. Swanson got the start for Asheville and went 4.1 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 6. The offense got a run back in the 6th on a Johnson sac fly. In the 7th, Deming gave Asheville the lead with a 2 run double. Foggo and Molero turned in scoreless outings as they closed out the 4-3 win.

Note: Garcia is hitting .298 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (46-56)

Game 1 – won 13-12 (BOX SCORE)

This game was a completion of Saturday’s game that was suspended. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first scoring 2 runs on an error and Nunez RBI double. Nunez got the start and went 2 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense got the run back in the 2nd inning on an Encarnacion RBI single. In the 3rd, Gomez added a solo HR. Rodriguez pitched in relief and allowed 6 runs as the Fireflies took a 10-4 lead. The offense battled back scoring 3 in the 6th on a Hernandez RBI single and Encarnacion 2 run single. After the Fireflies got 2 in the 8th, Diaz responded back with a 2 run HR. The Woodpeckers entered the 9th down 12-9 but rallied for 4 runs on a Villarroel RBI single, Nunez RBI double, Santander sac fly and Hernandez walk-off RBI single.

Note: Gomez has 23 doubles this season.

Game 2 – lost 6-0 (BOX SCORE)

Mejia got the start in game two but struggled allowing 4 runs, 3 earned over 4 innings. The pen allowed a couple of runs as the Fireflies opened up a 6-0 lead. The offense was quiet on the night picking up just 2 hits in game two as they fell 6-0.

Note: Encarnacion has 33 stolen bases this season.
