Astros Minor League Recap: August 24th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (76-48) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Gordon got the start and was dominant striking out 11 over 6 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Salazar RBI single. In the 6th, Machado added a sac fly to extend the lead. The pen was great tossing 3 scoreless innings as they closed out the 2-0 win.

Note: Montero has 14 K in 6 innings in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (43-75) won 11-7 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 2 on a Palma 2 run HR. They got 2 more in the 3rd on a Sacco RBI triple and a run scoring on a balk. The offense blew it open in the 4th scoring 6 runs on an Espinosa sac fly, a run on a passed ball, a Cole 2 run HR, Matthews solo HR and Barber RBI single. Santa got the start and allowed 1 unearned run over 2.2 innings. In the 5th, Baez added an RBI single. Pecko struck out 5 over 3.2 innings in relief. Guilfoil allowed some runs but held on for the win.

Note: Pecko has a 2.45 ERA in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (48-69) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Gomez put Asheville on the board in the first inning on a leadoff home run. Pena got the start and allowed 6 runs over 1.1 innings, though all 6 were unearned. The offense rallied for 4 runs in the 5th on a Caldera 3 run double and a run on an error. The offense got another run in the 8th on a Guillemette RBI single but the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Asheville fell 10-6.

Note: Molero has a 2.70 ERA this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (52-65) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez got the start and went 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Powell RBI groundout. Ogando allowed 3 runs in relief as the Cannon Ballers extended their lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Woodpeckers fell 5-1.

Note: Mercedes has 70 K in 42 innings this season.
