Astros Minor League Recap: August 23rd

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (75-48) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Greene got the start but struggled allowing 3 runs and retiring just 2 batters before being pulled. Tamarez allowed a run in the 2nd as Sugar Land went down 4-0. The offense got 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a Cabbage solo HR and a run on an error. They got 2 more runs in the 3rd on a Cabbage 2 run HR. The pen allowed a couple runs as the Isotopes went up 6-4. The offense got one back in the 9th on a Hamilton RBI double but that was it as Sugar Land fell 6-5.

Note: Cabbage has a .897 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (42-75) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Brown got the start for the Hooks and pitched well striking out 8 over 4.1 innings while allowing 1 run. The offense got on the board in the 5th an error and a Baez RBI double. In the 8th, Baez connected on a solo HR, his first in AA. Cole added a solo HR in the 9th to extend the lead. Rodriguez came in to close out the last few innings but allowed 4 in the 9th as the Hooks fell 5-4.

Note: Cole has a .860 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (48-68) lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Swanson got the start and went 5 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 9. He was relieved by Brockhouse who allowed 3 runs. The offense was quiet on the night picking up just 1 hit as they fell 4-0.

Note: Swanson has 103 K in 97 innings this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (52-64) lost 9-6 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for the Woodpeckers but struggled allowing 4 runs over 4 innings. The offense got on the board in the first on a Schiavone 2 run HR. They got another run in the 2nd on a Holy RBI single. The Woodpeckers tied the game in the 8th with an Austin RBI double and a run on a fielder’s choice. The game went to extras and in the 11th, the Cannon Ballers scored 4 runs to take the lead. The offense got one back but that was it as the Woodpeckers fell 9-6.

Note: Holy has 8 SB this season.
