Astros Minor League Recap: August 15th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (74-42) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Blubaugh got the start and allowed 4 runs over 4.1 innings. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning scoring 4 runs on a Narvaez RBI single, Hamilton RBI double, and a Hummel 2 run single. Tamarez allowed a run as Tacoma took a 5-4 lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as Sugar Land fell 5-4.

Note: Montero hasn’t allowed a run in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (39-71) won 16-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in a big way scoring 7 runs in the 2nd inning on an Arocho RBI single, Price sac fly, Wrobleski RBI double, Cole 2 run double and Sacco 2 run HR. They got 2 more runs in the 3rd on an Espinosa sac fly and Baez RBI single. Verlander got the start and was really good allowing 1 earned run over 4 innings while striking out 5. The offense blew it open more scoring 7 runs in the 7th inning on a Cerny solo HR, Espinosa RBI single, Bez sac fly, Cole RBI double, Sacco RBI single, Ferreras RBI groundout and Cole RBI double. The pen allowed a few runs but held on for the 16-5 win.

Note: Cole has a .825 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (46-63) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Cruz 3 run HR. Batista started for the Tourists and allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 5 innings. Asheville took the lead in the 7th on a Gomez RBI single. After the Emperors tied the game in the bottom of the 7th, the Tourists retook the lead with a Guillemette RBI single in the 8th. Nezuh closed it out allowing 1 run over the final 4 innings as Asheville won 5-4.

Note: Nezuh has 133 K in 103.1 innings this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (48-61) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first on a Villarroel RBI double. Murfee made a rehab start but struggled allowing 4 runs retiring just 1 batter. Brito pitched in relief and tossed 4 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. The offense got 2 runs back in the 5th on Austin and Powell RBI singles. Augusta scored 2 more to open their lead to 6-3 but the Woodpeckers responded with one in the 8th on a wild pitch. The offense was unable to score against the Woodpeckers fell 6-4.

Note: Brito has a 1.80 ERA in Single-A.
