Astros Prospect Hotlist: Week Thirteen

For this piece, I will highlight the top performers at the plate and on the mound from the previous week of play. Below is the hotlist for Week Thirteen. Here is last week’s Hotlist.

Who’s Hot At The Plate?

Shay Whitcomb – I said this last week and I’ll say it again… It wouldn’t be a hotlist without an appearance from Shay Whitcomb. He put together another strong week for Sugar Land. In six games, he hit .375 with 2 doubles, a homer, 3 runs batted in and 7 stolen bases. Overall he has 18 doubles, 20 stolen bases with a .967 OPS this season.

Luis Baez – Baez showed off some power this week. He has had a strong year for Asheville, but this week he connected on 4 homers in just 5 games. He hit .333 this week and is now hitting .296 with a .851 OPS and 14 homers this season.

Quincy Hamilton – Hamilton has quietly put together a nice season in Sugar Land. This week, the outfielder hit .429 with a triple, 3 runs batted in and 4 stolen bases. He also had 5 BB/2 SO. Overall this year, he has a .857 OPS in 58 games in Triple-A.

Collin Price – Price has been steady this season but had one of his best weeks over the last 6 days. The 24-year-old catcher played in 4 games and went 4-for-13 with a double, homer, 4 runs batted in and 2 BB/1 SO. Overall he has a .755 OPS this season.

Who’s Hot On The Mound?

Ryan Gusto – Gusto has really turned things around over the last few weeks. In his one start this week for Sugar Land, he went 7 shutout innings while picking up 6 strikeouts. He finished June with a 1.57 ERA in 23 innings.

Jackson Nezuh – Nezuh finds himself on this list again after another great outing. He went 6 innings allowing 1 run and racking up 8 strikeouts. He leads the Carolina League in strikeouts with 79 in 66.2 innings. He has held opponents to a .186 BAA. Read more here.

Nic Swanson – Swanson pitched in one game this week, and pitched really well tossing 5 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. The right-hander has 58 K in 58.2 innings this season for Asheville.

Tyler Guilfoil – Guilfoil has had a solid season and limited the hits. This week the right-hander allowed 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 5. He has held opponents to a .224 BAA this season.

Sandy Mejia – Mejia has racked up the strikeouts this season and this week was no different. He pitched in two games totaling 9 innings and allowed 2 runs while striking out 11. He has 58 strikeouts in 44.1 innings this season.
