For this piece, I will highlight the top performers at the plate and on the mound from the previous week of play. Below is the hotlist for Week Fifteen.
Who’s Hot At The Plate?
Zach Cole – Cole has been swinging it well lately, and put together a great stretch over the last week. The 23-year-old hit .529 with 3 doubles, 2 homers and 8 runs batted in. In 38 Double-A games this year, Cole is hitting .262 with a .823 OPS.
Austin Deming – Deming signed for $7,500 last summer but has easily out played his draft bonus. This week, the 24-year-old hit .320 with 3 doubles and 3 homers with 6 runs batted in. Overall this season he is hitting .276 with 16 doubles, 12 homers and 41 runs batted in.
Alejandro Nunez – Nunez is having a big July and put together a nice stretch this last week. The 19-year-old hit .368 with a double, a homer, 7 runs batted in and 3 stolen bases in 5 games. He is up to a .730 OPS overall in 71 games in Fayetteville.
Narbe Cruz – Cruz has flown under the radar a bit, maybe since he doesn’t have big power, but the guy just hits. This week he hit .429 with 4 doubles in 6 games for Asheville. Overall he is hitting .285 in 41 games for Asheville.
Who’s Hot On The Mound?
Ryan Gusto – Gusto has continued his great stretch. This week, the right-hander went 6.1 innings allowing 1 unearned run and striking out 9. He has a 1.27 ERA since the beginning of July, racking up 34 K in 35.1 innings during that time.
Joey Mancini – Mancini has been on another level in Double-A. This week he continued his hot pitching tossing 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Overall in Double-A he has a 1.87 ERA over 33.2 innings allowing just 21 hits.
Trey Dombroski – Dombroski’s peripherals have looked good all year, but pitching in Asheville isn’t always kind. This week, the left-hander struck out 6 over 5 innings allowing 1 run. He has 18 BB/75 K overall in 61 innings this season.
Alain Pena – Pena made one start this week and tossed 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. The 20-year-old has put together a strong year posting a 3.30 ERA with 75 K in 71 innings this season for Fayetteville.
Colton Gordon – Gordon turned in one of his best starts of the year this week. The left-hander went 5 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit. Overall this season he has a 4.25 ERA in 59.1 innings in Triple-A.
Miguel Ullola – Ullola, at times, is the most dominating pitcher in the system. This week he was unhittable going 5.1 no-hit innings. On the season, he has allowed just 43 hits in 81.1 innings with 105 strikeouts in Double-A.
