Who’s Hot At The Plate?

Zach Cole – Cole has been swinging it well lately, and put together a great stretch over the last week. The 23-year-old hit .529 with 3 doubles, 2 homers and 8 runs batted in. In 38 Double-A games this year, Cole is hitting .262 with a .823 OPS.

Austin Deming – Deming signed for $7,500 last summer but has easily out played his draft bonus. This week, the 24-year-old hit .320 with 3 doubles and 3 homers with 6 runs batted in. Overall this season he is hitting .276 with 16 doubles, 12 homers and 41 runs batted in.

Alejandro Nunez – Nunez is having a big July and put together a nice stretch this last week. The 19-year-old hit .368 with a double, a homer, 7 runs batted in and 3 stolen bases in 5 games. He is up to a .730 OPS overall in 71 games in Fayetteville.

Narbe Cruz – Cruz has flown under the radar a bit, maybe since he doesn’t have big power, but the guy just hits. This week he hit .429 with 4 doubles in 6 games for Asheville. Overall he is hitting .285 in 41 games for Asheville.

Who’s Hot On The Mound?

Ryan Gusto – Gusto has continued his great stretch. This week, the right-hander went 6.1 innings allowing 1 unearned run and striking out 9. He has a 1.27 ERA since the beginning of July, racking up 34 K in 35.1 innings during that time.

Joey Mancini – Mancini has been on another level in Double-A. This week he continued his hot pitching tossing 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Overall in Double-A he has a 1.87 ERA over 33.2 innings allowing just 21 hits.

Trey Dombroski – Dombroski’s peripherals have looked good all year, but pitching in Asheville isn’t always kind. This week, the left-hander struck out 6 over 5 innings allowing 1 run. He has 18 BB/75 K overall in 61 innings this season.

Alain Pena – Pena made one start this week and tossed 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. The 20-year-old has put together a strong year posting a 3.30 ERA with 75 K in 71 innings this season for Fayetteville.

Colton Gordon – Gordon turned in one of his best starts of the year this week. The left-hander went 5 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit. Overall this season he has a 4.25 ERA in 59.1 innings in Triple-A.

Miguel Ullola – Ullola, at times, is the most dominating pitcher in the system. This week he was unhittable going 5.1 no-hit innings. On the season, he has allowed just 43 hits in 81.1 innings with 105 strikeouts in Double-A.
