Astros Minor League Recap: July 4th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (55-30) won 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runs on a Wagner RBI single, Hamilton bases loaded walk and Machado sac fly. Gordon got the start and allowed 3 runs over 5 innings with 7 strikeouts. Sugar Land got 2 more in the 6th on a Wagner 2 run single. In the 8th, Leon added a 2 run HR. The bullpen was solid as they closed out the 7-4 win.

Note: Wagner has a .420 OBP this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (28-51) lost 8-0 (BOX SCORE)

Garcia made a rehab start for the Hooks but struggled allowing 4 runs over 1.1 innings. He was relieved by De Paula who also allowed 4 runs. Hicks was great in relief striking out 7 over 5 scoreless innings. The offense was quiet though picking up just 2 hits in the 8-0 loss.

Note: Melton has 14 SB this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (34-42) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville jumped out to a big lead in the 2nd inning scoring 7 runs on a 2 run error, a wild pitch, a Garcia 2 run double, Johnson bases loaded walk and Carrillo RBI groundout. True got the start and allowed 4 runs over 4.1 innings. The offense picked up another run in the 4th on a wild pitch and a solo HR from Loftin in the 7th. The bullpen allowed a few runs as the Drive made it close but they were able to hold on for the 9-8 win.

Note: Garcia has 17 doubles this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (35-44) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE

Marte got the start and allowed 5 runs over 4 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Hernandez bases loaded walk. They got 3 in the 5th on a Nunez RBI single and Hernandez 2 run HR. Pena pitched in relief allowing 3 runs over 3 innings. The offense was unable to score again as the Woodpeckers fell 8-4.
