Astros Minor League Recap: July 26th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (64-35) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Salazar sac fly. In the 3rd, they picked up 2 more runs on a Dezenzo RBI double and Wagner RBI single. Gordon got the start but ran into trouble in the 4th and allowed 8 runs over 3.2 innings. Sugar Land got 2 runs back in the 5th on a Wagner double play and Kessinger solo HR. In the 6th, Salazar added an RBI triple. Sugar Land entered the 9th down 8-6 but rallied to tie the game on Wagner and Kessinger RBI singles. In the 11th inning, Kessinger walked it off with a sac fly as Sugar Land won 9-8.

Note: Ort has a 1.13 ERA in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (32-61) lost 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Hicks started for the Hooks and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. The offense got on the board with a 2 run HR from Matthews in the 3rd inning. Melendez relieved and allowed 3 runs as the Cardinals took the lead. The offense was unable to score again as the Hooks fell 4-2.

Note: Matthews has a .842 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (39-52) won 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the second inning on a Cruz 2 run HR. In the 3rd, they got 4 more runs on a wild pitch and Cruz 3 run HR. Dombroski got the start and pitched well allowing 1 unearned run over 5 innings of work. The pen allowed a few runs, but was able to hold on for the 6-4 win.

Note: Dombroski has a 0.92 ERA over his last 4 outings.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (43-51) 

Game 1 – lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Pena started game one and pitched well allowing 3 runs, all in the 5th inning, over 6 innings while striking out 7. The offense got on the board in the 6th inning on an error and a Jaworsky RBI double. That would be it those as the Woodpeckers fell 3-2.

Note: Jaworski has 20 doubles this season.

  • Alain Pena, RHP: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

Game 2 – lost 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Sanchez got the start for the Woodpeckers and allowed 1 run over 3.2 with 7 strikeouts. The bullpen was solid tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. The offense was quiet picking up just 5 hits as they were shutout in the 1-0 loss.

Note: Marte has 55 K in 48.1 innings this season.
