Astros Minor League Recap: July 21st

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (61-34) won 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Lauer got the start for Sugar Land allowing 3 runs over 4 innings while striking out 5. Leon put Sugar Land on the board in the 4th inning with a solo HR, his 19th HR of the season. Sugar Land tied things up in the 7th on a Bastidas solo HR and Narvaez RBI double. The game went to extra innings and in the 10th, Sugar Land scored 3 runs on a Whitcomb sac fly and Hummel 2 run triple.

Note: Leon has a .912 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (31-58) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Ullola started for the Hooks but struggled a bit allowing 4 runs over 5 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Ferreras solo HR. In the 5th, they got another run on an Espinosa solo HR. Fleury pitched in relief and was solid allowing 1 unearned run over 4 innings. Matthews connected on a solo HR in the 9th but that was it from the Hooks as they fell 5-3.

Note: Matthews has 10 HR this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (37-50)

Game 1 – lost 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Sherwin RBI single. True got the start for the Tourists but struggled allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, over 3 innings. In the 4th, Fisher connected on a solo HR. The pen allowed a run and the offense was unable to get anything else going as Asheville fell 5-2.

Note: Fischer has 8 HR in High-A this season.

Game 2 – lost 3-4 (BOX SCORE)

Urias started game two and allowed 3 runs over 3.2 innings. Asheville got on the board in the 4th on a Guillemette solo HR. The pen allowed a run as the Dash extended their lead to 4-1. In the 9th, Baez connected on a 2 run HR to make it 4-3 but that would be it from the offense as Asheville dropped game 2.

Note: Baez has 16 HR this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (42-48) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for the Woodpeckers and pitched really well allowing 1 hit and 1 unearned run over 5 innings of work. Ochoa tied the game up in the 5th connecting on a solo HR, his 8th of the season. In the 8th, the Woodpeckers took the lead scoring 2 runs on an Encarnacion RBI double and Luciano RBI single. Rodriguez went the final 4 innings allowing just 1 unearned run as he closed out the 3-2 win.

Note: Santos has a 3.42 ERA this season.
