Astros Minor League Recap: July 20th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (60-34) won 8-6 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the third inning on a Hensley RBI single and Hamilton 2 run triple. They got 2 more in the 4th on a Hamilton 2 run single. Gordon got the start and struck out 8 over 6.1 innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned. The offense got 2 more in the 5th on a Leon 2 run HR and in the 6th, Hamilton added a solo HR. The bullpen allowed a couple of runs but Suero was able to shut the door in the 9th as Sugar Land won 8-6.

Note: Hamilton has a .881 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (31-57) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Hicks got the start but ran into some trouble in the 4th and ended up allowing 5 runs over 4 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the bottom of thee 4th on a Matthews solo HR and Corona RBI single. The pen was solid tossing 5 scoreless innings. In the 9th, Cole connected on a solo HR but that was it from the offense as the Hooks fell 5-3.

Note: Matthews has 9 HR this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (37-48) POSTPONED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (41-48)

Game 1 – won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

This was a completion of Friday night’s game. The Woodpeckers jumped on the board early scoring 3 runs in the first inning on a Gomez RBI single and Villarroel 2 run single. Pena got the start and went 2 innings allowing 1 run. When the game started back, Villarroel connected on a solo HR in the 3rrd. Langford got the “start” after the postponement and went the final 5 innings allowing no runs and striking out 3.

Note: Langford has a 3.41 ERA this season.

Game 2 – won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Marte started game 2 for the Woodpeckers and was solid allowing 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 6. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Villarroel RBI single. After the RiverDogs got a run in the 6th, the Woodpeckers responded and tied it up on a Hernandez RBI groundout. In the bottom of the 7th, Luciano walked it off with a solo HR for the 3-2 win.

Note: Villarroel is hitting .295 in Single-A.
