The Houston Astros signed catcher Miguel Flores to a minor league contract, his team in the Dominican Republic announced on Instagram. Flores, who is from Caracas, Venezuela, is another addition for Houston in the current international signing period which opened Jan. 15.
“Proud of your courage to never give up, what a great joy to confirm your official closing with Projection Baseball Academy” Projection Baseball Academy wrote. “Thanks for the trust and God bless you always.”
Flores is listed at 6’0″ and 177 lbs. He is a right-handed hitter, right-handed thrower. Flores was activated in the Dominican Summer League by the Astros and should be playing in games soon.
Jancel Villarroel off to hot start
Jancel Villarroel was signed back in 2022 by the Astros. He spent two years in the Dominican Summer League and hit .321 with a .963 OPS in 57 games. This year, he started in the FCL and recently earned a promotion to full season ball with Fayetteville at just 19 years old. In two games, the catching prospect is hitting .500 (4-for-8) with 4 runs scored, a double and a run batted in. He draws walks and limits the strikeouts. He will be fun to watch moving forward.
