Astros Minor League Recap: May 31st

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (35-20) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Cabbage got the scoring started in the first with a 2 run HR. Gusto started for Sugar Land and allowed 4 runs over 4 innings while striking out 5. The offense rallied in the 8th getting a Hummel groundout and a Salazar 2 run HR to take the lead. In the 9th, they got another run on a Wagner RBI triple. The bullpen was unable to hold it though as the Aviators scored 2 runs to tie it in the 9th and then 1 run to walk it off in the 10th.

Note: Wagner is hitting .291 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (16-31)

Game 1 – won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started game one for the Hooks and pitched really well tossing 6 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. The Hooks got on the board in the 9th scoring a run on an RBI single. Midland tied it in the 9th and sent it to the 10th. In the 10th, the Hooks got a run on a Cole RBI single. Ford was able to shut the door to secure the 2-1 win.

Note: Brown has a 2.78 ERA this season.

Game 2 – won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Guilfoil started game two for the Hooks and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 6 innings, both coming in the first, while striking out 7. The Hooks rallied for 3 runs in the 4th on a Cole 2 run double and Ferreras sac fly. DeLabio struck out the side in the 7th to close out the 3-2 win.

Note: Cole is hitting .303 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (21-27) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Baez put Asheville on the board in the first inning with a 2 run HR, his 7th HR of the season. Swanson got the start and was great going 5 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Garcia added an insurance run in the 8th with an RBI single. The Grasshoppers scored 2 runs in the 9th to make it close but Henderson was able to hold on for the save.

Note: Baez is hitting .284 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (24-25) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning scoring a run on a fielder’s choice. The offense blew things open in the 4th getting a Hernandez RBI single and a Bush grand slam. Mejia started for the Woodpeckers and pitched well tossing 5 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Leach relieved Mejia and struck out 5 over 2.1 innings while allowing 2 runs, 1 earned. Sanchez came in and shut the door tossing 1.2 scoreless with 3 strikeouts as the Woodpeckers won 6-2.

Note: Ochoa is on a 10 game hitting streak.
