Astros Minor League Recap: June 6th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (38-22) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Gusto started for Sugar Land and pitched very well allowing 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 6. Whitcomb got Sugar Land on the board with a solo HR in the 7th. The game would go to extra innings and in the 10th, Salazar drove in 2 with a 2 run double. Greene allowed run in the bottom of the inning but King came in and shut the door for the 3-2 win.

Note: Whitcomb has a .901 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (21-33) lost 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Guilfoil started for the Hooks and turned in a quality start allowing 3 runs over 6 innings. The offense struggled on the night collecting just four hits as they were shutout int he 3-0 loss.

Note: Guilfoil has a 3.86 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (23-28) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Guedez started for Asheville and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings. The offense got on the board in the 7th scoring 4 runs on a Matthews RBI single, Baez 2 run double and Cerny sac fly. Urias pitched in relief but struggled allowing 5 runs as the Hot Rods took the lead. Encarnacion added a solo HR in the 8th but that was it from the offense as Asheville fell 6-5.

Note: Matthews is hitting .333 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (25-29) lost 1-0 (BOX SCORE

Pena started for the Woodpeckers and pitched really well tossing 6 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. He was relieved by Leach who allowed a run over 2 innings. The offense was quiet on the night picking up just 3 hits as they were shutout in the 1-0 loss.

Note: Pena has a 2.68 ERA this season.
