Astros Minor League Recap: June 5th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (37-22) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on an error. They got 2 more in the 4th on a Berryhill 2 run HR. Lauer got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings. The bullpen was solid with Contreras and Suero tossing scoreless outings to close out the 4-2 win.

Note: Berryhill has a .756 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (21-32) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for the Hooks and went 5 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Brewer RBI groundout. They rallied for 4 runs in the 5th on bases loaded walks to Ferreras and Brewer and a 2 run single from Williams. The offense added a few more runs on a groundout and wild pitch to extend the lead. The pen tossed 3 scoreless innings to close out the 8-4 win.

Note: Ferreras has a .902 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (23-27) won 18-8 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got their offense going early scoring 7 runs in the first on a Garcia RBI double, run scoring on a wild pitch, Carrillo 2 run single, Encarnacion RBI single and another run on a wild pitch. In the 4th they got 2 runs on a Deming 2 run HR. True got the start and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs with 6 strikeouts. The offense got 5 more in the 5th with 2 runs scoring on an error, a Matthews solo HR, Garcia RBI double and Johnson sac fly. The offense continued to get runs included a Matthews 2 run HR in the 8th inning. Hicks closed it out allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, over the final 4 innings.

Note: Matthews is hitting .304 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (25-28) lost 4-2 (BOX SCORE

Santos started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 3 runs over 4 innings while striking out 5. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring a run on a double play. They got another run in the 5th on a Casserilla RBI single. The bullpen was solid allowing just 1 unearned run over 4 innings but the offense was unable to complete the comeback as the Woodpeckers fell 4-2.

Note: Santos has 47 K in 43.1 innings this season.
