Astros Minor League Recap: June 28th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (51-28) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Space Cowboys got on the board in the first on a Bastidas solo HR. They got another run in the 3rd inning on a Kessinger RBI single. Gomez made the start for Sugar Land and went 3 innings allowing 2 runs. Tacoma picked up a run in the 6th to take a 3-2 lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Space Cowboys fell 3-2.

Note: Leon is hitting .296 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (27-46) lost 8-6 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Melton 2 run HR. In the third inning, the offense got 3 more runs on another Melton 2 run HR and a Dezenzo solo HR. Brown got the start and went 5 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 7. The Hooks got another run in the 6th on a Price RBI double. Hicks relieved Brown and allowed 5 runs over 3 innings. The offense got 2 on in the 9th but failed to score as the Hooks fell 8-6.

Note: Melton has a .770 OPS this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (32-39) lost 17-1 (BOX SCORE)

Dombroski got the start for Asheville but struggled allowing 7 runs over 3 innings. He was relieved by Cobos who allowed 3 runs in one inning as Asheville found themselves down 10-0. Carrillo put Asheville on the board with a solo HR in the 6th. Loftin added a 2 run HR in the 9th but the pen dug too deep of a hole as Asheville lost big last night.

Note: Baez is hitting .296 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (32-41) lost 9-7 (BOX SCORE

Langford started for the Woodpeckers but retired just two batters allowing one run before he was pulled. The offense got on the board on an Encarnacion RBI single in the 3rd and a Nunez RBI single in the 4th. Sanchez tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief before giving way to Santos who allows 5 runs, 2 earned. The offense got 2 back on an error in the 5th inning. Mercedes allowed 3 runs in relief as the Pelicans extended their lead. The offense got 3 in the 8th on a Bush RBI single and RBI groundouts from Hernandez and Encarnacion. The comeback fell short though as the Woodpeckers fell 9-7.
